Outokumpu has earned an ‘A’ score on CDP’s list for Climate Change, highlighting its leadership in climate action and transparency. CDP annually assesses companies for their environmental transparency and performance on climate change, deforestation and water security.

The recognition places Outokumpu among a group of leading global companies that demonstrate best-in-class performance on climate disclosure and emissions reduction. In CPD’s assessment, Outokumpu received an A score in categories such as target setting, governance, emission reduction initiatives, and low-carbon products. For water security, Outokumpu received a ‘C’ score.

“We’re proud that our commitment to climate leadership is recognized on CDP’s A List. This achievement reflects years of determined work to cut emissions across our operations and value chain resulting in up to 75% lower carbon footprint in stainless steel than the industry average – and to make our climate progress fully transparent. It shows that our approach to sustainability is both robust and impactful”, says Heidi Peltonen, Vice President, Sustainability at Outokumpu.

Outokumpu is the global leader in sustainable stainless steel using over 90% recycled materials in its production. The company is ahead of its science-based climate target of reducing emission intensity by 42% by 2030, having already achieved a 32% reduction from its 2016 baseline. Through its ambitious climate work, Outokumpu enabled its customers to reduce their carbon footprint by 10 million tonnes in 2024. While the A score given by CDP demonstrates Outokumpu’s leadership in climate, it also offers Outokumpu’s strategic customers transparency on climate action.

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure system. Its annual A List evaluates thousands of companies based on their climate transparency, target setting, and verified action.
