Moda 430/4016

Moda 430/4016 is a classic 16% chromium ferritic stainless steel. Good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments combined with good formability have made this product one of the most used non-hardenable ferritics, especially in indoor environments.

Typical applications
  • Kitchen equipment
  • Household appliances
  • Sinks
  • Flanges and valves

Moda 430Ti/4520

Moda 430Ti/4520 is an alternative to Moda 430/4016 with better formability and weldability for stamping, drawability applications, and complex shapes. It is a medium-chromium ferritic stainless steel that can be used in many mildly corrosive environments. Because of its titanium alloying, Moda 430Ti/4520 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion. It is possible to use Moda 430Ti/4520 at elevated temperatures, like for instance in the cold end of automotive exhaust systems.

Typical applications
  • Counter tops
  • Flue induction connectors
  • Automotive applications

Moda 439/4510

Moda 439/4510 is a titanium-stabilized 17% chromium ferritic steel with improved corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability compared to Moda 430/4016.

Moda 439/4510 is a medium-chromium ferritic stainless steel, which can be used in many mildly corrosive environments. Because of its titanium alloying, Moda 439/4510 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion. It is possible to use Moda 439/4510 at elevated temperatures, for instance the cold end of automotive exhaust systems.

Typical applications
  • Automotive exhaust systems
  • Sugar industry equipment
  • Household appliances

Moda 4589

Moda 4589 is a 14% chromium product with a small amount of niobium for elevated strength, making it suitable for structural parts exposed to loads that demand higher yield points.

Moda 4589 is a structural medium-chromium martensitic-ferritic stainless steel with enhanced wear resistance. Due to its chromium content and its molybdenum alloying, it can be used in many mildly corrosive environments. Because of its titanium content, Moda 4589 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion.

Typical applications
  • Conveyor chains
  • Railroad cars

Moda 410L/4003

Moda 410L/4003 is a weldable ferritic stainless steel with elevated yield strength and resistance to abrasion. Its better corrosion resistance compared to carbon steels enables lower maintenance costs and longer service life.

Outokumpu Moda 410L/4003 is a low-chromium structural ferritic stainless steel. Its corrosion resistance is limited in applications with increased corrosiveness. Moda 410L/4003 can, however, replace carbon steel in many structural applications. When some discoloration in more aggressive environments is not acceptable, Moda 410L/4003 may be painted.

Moda 410L/4003 is available in many product forms and dimensions, often also from stainless steel stockholders.

Typical applications
  • Railroad and road vehicles
  • Shipping containers
  • Industrial applications
  • Mining conveyors

Moda 409/4512

Moda 409/4512 is a weldable ferritic stainless steel with good oxidation resistance in dry air. This product is also available as low-carbon Moda 409L. Its corrosion resistance is limited in applications with increased corrosiveness. Because of its titanium alloying, Moda 409/4512 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion. It is possible to use Moda 409/4512 in high-temperature applications, for instance in automotive exhaust systems, where it is often used to replace aluminium-coated carbon steel.

Typical applications
  • Automotive applications
  • Industrial exhaust systems

For mildly Corrosive environments

Outokumpu Moda range

The Moda range contains ferritic stainless steel grades for mildly corrosive environments in PRE range < 17. The most widely used ferritic grade, Moda 430/4016 (EN 1.4016), is a classic 16% chromium unstabilized ferritic stainless steel. Typical applications are kitchen equipment, household appliances, sinks and elevators.

Moda 410L/4003 (EN 1.4003) is unstabilized 12% chromium ferritic stainless steel designed for structural applications, like bus frames, having good welding characteristics and good impact properties in subzero temperatures.

Moda range offers also stabilized ferritic products, like Moda 409/4512 (EN 1.4512), which is particularly suitable for some automotive applications. In addition, Moda range ferritic stainless steels can show formability comparable to that of deep drawing quality carbon steels. Regarding welding characteristics, low interstitial levels and added stabilizers have made enormous improvements to ferritic stainless steels. Further, distortion and buckling is much lower during welding when compared to that of austenitic or duplex stainless steels due to their lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity.

Moda range grades can be used in a wide range of applications supported with a broad selection of surface finishes from mills and service centers.
