Stainless steel grades available in Circle Green
Circle Green Moda 409/4512
Circle Green® is the world’s first towards zero carbon stainless steel. It has the lowest carbon footprint in the industry.
Moda 409/4512 is a weldable ferritic stainless steel with good oxidation resistance in dry air. This product is also available as low-carbon Moda 409L. Its corrosion resistance is limited in applications with increased corrosiveness. Because of its titanium alloying, Moda 409/4512 can be welded in all dimensions without becoming susceptible to intergranular corrosion. It is possible to use Moda 409/4512 in high-temperature applications, for instance in automotive exhaust systems, where it is often used to replace aluminium-coated carbon steel.

A breakthrough in sustainable stainless steel

Renewable and low-carbon energy
By using only renewable sources and low-carbon electricity in our production we have eliminated 95% of all scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions
100% recycled content
We replaced primary raw materials with recirculated raw materials, and as a result, our Circle Green is made of up to 100% recycled material.

Optimized production processes
Achieved by looking into the entire value chain and then acting on it, such as used biogas instead of natural gas in the production process.
How is Circle Green’s carbon footprint calculated?
We use our TÜV SÜD-verified and award-winning Product Carbon Footprint to calculate environmental impact. The calculation considers all Green House Gas (GHG) emissions produced during the whole production chain (Scope 1,2,3), from cradle to gate.
Outokumpu is the first stainless steel producer in the world to provide a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) certificate using third party-verified methodology. The data distinguishes Outukumpu Circle Green® from other, conventional stainless steel offerings.
We even provide batch-specific CO2 figures for Outokumpu Circle Green®. Green energy plays a significant role in the production of the low carbon steel, along with the use of special raw materials such as organic coke for ferrochrome production, and optimized scrap management.
This makes Circle Green the world’s first towards zero carbon stainless steel. It has the lowest carbon footprint in the industry — a reduction of up to 93% when compared to the industry average. By choosing the most sustainable stainless in the world in your application, you can become a forerunner in your industry.
